My duck pipped last night at 9 pm and when I came home this morning, no more progress and no movement. Scared of shrinkwrapped chick. My mini incubator broke last week and I have had to make one from a heating pad. I had the temp up to what is said to keep him at and had egg in a plastic bowl with a damp tissue under it. Now I am thinking it was not wet enough. Do I assist? I am re hydrating now if possible. have it in a small container with wet tissue under heat lamp. Watching now for temp to regulate. I am typing rather fast... can any give advice???

I the membrane is now moving where the egg pipped. So still alive. This is too nerve wreaking. Next time I will buy a already hatched duckling. I did this because the dog killed my duck and my roo and I tried to hatch the last fertile eggs that my hen laid (none of them hatched) and I got a duck egg from down the road from a pair of mixed ducks (male mallard, female peking) to try and replace my poor duck Sammy. Now I will have to try and find a friend for this guy if he makes it out alive since the hen eggs did not make it. (never developed)

I would recommend you look around the site and/or do a search for assisted hatch for ducks. There are ways to tell and I have some experience but in no way would call myself an expert. I am not sure how to attach the link to the articles but look around on the site. I know the answers to your questions are here. THey will probably ask about your humidity, the type of incubator you have and any other information. Pictures also help a bunch with them helping you. Good luck and I hope your baby makes it. :fl

he is pipping out the end that DOES NOT have the air cell. Does that mean he is coming out backwards? The inner membrane that is directly under the shell is very white. I am dabbing it with a wet qtip but I have been doing this since 4 pm today and now it is almost 3am and I am getting loopy. I don't have a working incubator because the one I bought broke and I had made one in a hurry with a heating pad but I had no way to see how humid it was. I did have the pad on top and the egg under in a dish sitting on a wet paper towel but obviously that was not enough....

He does have access to air as it is all the way thru but the membrane that is under the thicker papery membrane is gummy... not sure how much trouble I am looking at. :(

didn't make it. he got halfway out and stopped breathing. i did mouth to beak and chest compressions and brought him back. After that he fought for three more hours where he would stop breathing and I would get him back until finally he was gone. I see now the end where the egg air sack is (the opposite side of where he was trying to get out of) was totally dry and it looks like its yolk was not in his body or something...
