I have been trying to read up on what age silkies and bantams will lay their first egg. Even though the consensus seems to be around 6 months, I have been checking the coop.
Then I was looking at my little silkies and D'Uccle's, and even though they are 4 1/2 months old, they are still so very LITTLE. I honestly thought they would be bigger by now. So I figure it'll be another month or so- but I still check. I would feel bad if I stepped on the very first egg.
And- I didn't step on it!! I found it in the corner of the coop. It is soooo tiny and cute!
Here is a picture- and this is life sized- this is the actual size of the egg
Compared to one of the nice sized older girl eggs:
and looking so lost in the egg carton: (The little brown egg in the middle is one of the older girls idea of a joke.)
I got a lil egg!!
Now, in a week or so, if she keeps laying, I'll have enough for an egg sammich!
