Oh this brakes my heart. I really hope I don't have to put her to sleep but I am reading more and more and seems like I may have to come to terms with this evidently. I am so sorry about your hen and your dog! goodness you have had some tough things happen with animals close together. That is so hard. I too will cry my eyes out if I have to euthanize her as well. Good to know I am not alone when getting emotional about chickens. Thanks for the information. Good Luck with yours.

Would really like to know your outcome with your hen. I know you posted this years ago but I am now coming across this as I am in that boat right now with a sick chicken.

Hypericum can be in either a homeopathic form or herbal form. Totally different so use caution whenever using an herb as the potency is not usually guaranteed unless you purchase pharmaceutical grade & probably will get totally different results.

With a homeopathic remedy,very difficult to overdose, but too much of a homeopathic remedy can cause an exacerbation of symptoms(meaning the symptoms may worsen temporarily) Reason why I said not to re-dose with homeopathic Hypericum until the symptoms returned or you may be causing the symptoms to worsen by dosing too soon.

Homeopathic medicine is totally different than conventional allopathic medicine which most all you use. A totally different set of strange rules must be followed to allow homeopathics to work. First of all-DO NOT TOUCH the remedy tablet or you may deactivate it & cause it not to work.....And do not mix remedy with anything except pure water. Do not dose within 20 minutes of other food. Do not ingest any strong tasting,smelling substances such as coffee,mint.....So as strange as all this may seem,if procedure is followed,homeopathics can work if the correct remedy for the symptom is chosen. I am not any kind of expert on homeopathy but it did save my life when conventional medicine failed so I took notice ! And decided if it can save my life,it can save animals lives also ! I have used it with success in many cases untreatable by conventional medicine with the help of my personal ND. And now I use it more than conventional drugs in my animals. Bottom line- is best to get some advice from a ND or homeopath if you need help determining a remedy to use and a potency and a dosage schedule for that specific remedy as it does not compare to conventional medicine in any way......

"Helpful Hint" I like Hylands brand of low potency remedy tablets for birds & animals because the form is Fast to dissolve so very difficult for a bird to spit out as dissolves as soon as it touches moisture. Give the bird a couple drops of water in its beak,drop the tablet in the beak , & bird is medicated !

Another note,I personally have ingested homeopathic Hypericum for nerve damage under ND Rx. It does not just numb the nerves. It helps repair the nerve damage & a little bit is VERY potent stuff.Actually I never even noticed any "numbness",just my nerve damage symptoms disappeared & I had to take the remedy with increasing periods of time between doses until I was back to normal.

Great info. How did you get it and water in the birds beak without touching the tablet though I'm interested to know. I have a young chicken who was unwell for weeks and now can walk again but it's still shaking. I hope this will help with that.

There are several methods - probably the easiest is to take a clean syringe and tip the pills, about 3 -5 each time, [I prefer Boiron brand 30C potency] into the syringe. Put your finger tip on the end of the syringe and fill the syringe with distilled water. Shake and wait a moment, shake again ... to let the remedy disperse into the water. Then replace the plunger and tip the syringe up to gently expel excess air. Good to go..

What dosage did you use? I have 300 mg capsules and would like to know how much water to dilute with and how many ml to syringe.

The tube contains tiny pills and says 30 c. Use Boiron brand. I have used it a couple of times now over the past years and concluded that chickens who exhibit these symptoms..Mareks or not..Generally have weak immune systems. It seems like even if they recover a lot of times something else will kill them. I haven't had to use H.P. for years but we have a hen now we are trying it on. In the past I have been able to save two hens at different times using H.P. but bot h later died within a few months from some thing else. The flock as a whole will often times develop immunity. If you have 300 mg capsules it sounds like you just have St John's Wart a nd you do need the Hypericum.

Thank You so Much for posting about the use of Hypericum for Mareck's disease. I thought we were going to have to put our chicken down because I felt she was suffering and I didn't know what to do for her. She could not even stand up when I started dosing. She still has a ways to go but she is improving. I can't thank you enough for this information.

That's awesome, I'm glad you tried it! Sometimes it has amazing results, and sometimes not. If she recovers to the point where you quit using the Hypericum, if I were you I'd still keep her in a hospital pen and let her have some good quality poultry vitamins for a few days. It's possible that she has something else besides Marek's, there's a lot of diseases and conditions that cause neuro symptoms in poultry, but sounds like you got lucky! Congrats! (You might want to get her droppings tested for worms, too, if you can get a vet to do that...most will, and it's not expensive). At least it isn't here. Sometimes even worms can cause neuro symptoms.

I posted last night and just a half hour ago about my 3 year old Buff Orphington not walking for 2 days...... I read a post about using a natural cure HYPERICUM for Mareks or 'nerve damage'
I can not figure out if she has Mareks or not.... so I bought some this evening!

She has not walked in 2 days... can not even stand in 2 days......
I gave her the serum and in 15 mins SHE STOOD UP!!
She Stood there for 20 mins cleaning herslef and sometimes on one leg itching & scratching!!

She kept looking at ther legs... not sure what to do with them!!

So I picked her up out of her cat box & put her on the carpet.
She just stood there... looking at her legs! Not woobling!!!
So I through bread near her... AND SHE WALKED 3 steps to eat it!!
Now she just standing there.... washing up!!

WHAT??????
THIS IS NOT A FLUKE!!
She has not walked or stood up in 2 DAYS!!

Has anyone used this???
Did it work this fast???...... and did it last????
