Her body is no longer accessible, but I am nearly positive it was from her vent. If it was her navel would it have been obvious? Because I got them over a week ago and checked them all over physically about 5 days ago and saw nothing to alarm me. Also I am checking all the birds somewhat neurotically now. They will be subjected to random checks from now on. So far absolutely nothing concerning in any of them.

If it was any other time of year I probably would have tried the tricks I have read about on this forum but I am going to be gone too much in the next two weeks, it wouldn't have been fair to put her through that with her injuries as bad as they were. I had a feeling from the get go that anything I would have tried would have ended in more pain for her. In the end it wouldn't have been fair to prolong her pain just because I wanted her to be here.

She just had so much of her insides hanging out, it didn't look like any picture I have seen on here so far of a prolapse.

Last night it hit me that maybe it was rats, but I don't think so. Apparently they don't go after such old birds. I guess I will never know for sure. RIP little one.

Thanks to you and everyone for sharing links. I've learned a lot about what to do for prolapses and eggbound birds. This little pullet had a good 2 + inches of ...material.. hanging out of her, which didn't show up in the pic so much. It looked very different from all the prolapse pics I have seen but maybe that was due to pecking. It's hard losing them. It breaks my heart each time I lose a bird, this is our first bird we have had to put down to end it's pain so it hit us particularly hard. From day 1 you know it will eventually happen but it's not any better when it does.
