One of my hens disappeared and when she returned had seven chicks with her! I still haven't found her nest!

One of the chicks is much smaller than the other, lays around and doesn't move much, only in small spurts. It's belly button looks crusted and it jerks it's head sporadically.

Omphalitis? Is there anything I can do?

Thanks in advance for you advice!

Lara

I suspect you're not getting answers because it does not sound good at all -- sorry. Sounds like there is a lot more wrong than an infected belly button.

You could try. Isolate, extra nutrition and fluids, maybe some Neosporin on the area, maybe a little Gatorade or Pedialyte in the water. She would need a brooder and a lot of attention, and she won't like being alone.

No problem, thanks for the advice. I will bring the chick in and do my best. At least if it dies it won't die alone.

Thanks again~Lara

It could not ask for anything more; it will feel cared for, either way.

Let us know. Sometimes they surprise us.
