On Day 15....

Hello - I'm new here. I have some eggs in the incubator at day 15. I'm supposed to go away overnight, leaving on the 19th day of incubation, coming back on the 20th day. My question is - if my husband is home to watch the eggs, check on the temps, is there anything that could go wrong before I get back? My husband isn't as 'into' this whole process as I am - it's my project. Are the 19th and 20th days a 'make or break' time, so that I could ruin my hatch by not being there to watch over them?

From Day 19 on you are not really supposed to even open the bator, even during the hatch so the same thing technicially should happen whether you are there or not. And 19 days is a bit early, even though some do hatch then.... I wouldnt worry to much.

My question would have to be how often do you have to make changes? Do you have to add water every day? Adjust temps everyday? If not, I'd just be sure they're in the hatcher, or bator without the turner, temps & humidity are right, and go. I wouldn't even bother dh.

Thanks for your replies! I haven't had to adjust temp etc. too much except in the last couple of days, when temps outside were finally summer-like. Last couple of days I've had to adjust about 3 times. I think the weather isn't supposed to be so warm while I'm gone, though.


I won't worry too much, and DH does seem to be increasingly interested as we get closer to the possibility of a hatch. I have a feeling that curiosity, and the possibility of finding a chick, will keep him checking temps in the incubator at least twice a day
