On day 20..and starting to worry(updated with bad news)

I'm so sorry to hear about your eggs. I hatched RIR's and I had a hard time candling.

It would have been easier on you if you could had candled them. Then you would have know sooner. SO, when you do it the next time go to Wal-Mart and get a flash light. It’s a rayovak (spelling) ray o vak it gives off 45 lumens and it worked good for my RIR’s. I could see really good inside of them. It cost $19.99. Good luck on your next time.

thanks i will have to go buy one..im getting a new bator tomorrow for my next hatch...an dim gonna get one of those flash lights so i can candle..maybe thing swill go better next time

Were they LF RIRs? Sorry about this-I had bad luck with my first hatch, and know that a new bator has made a world of difference for me.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting that you not say anything if you really felt you should...or if you realy feel that were infertile. I think it's perfectly acceptable to let the seller know if you have a bad hatch. I certainly want to hear from people if they didn't have a good hatch with my eggs. It doesn't mean you have to complain, necessarily. Maybe it wasn't their fault, but maybe they do need to change something, maybe they do have fertility problems. My only point to my post was that you just can't know (without breaking an egg open and looking for the bullseye before you incubate it, which of course doesn't work if you want to incubate the egg!

) if those eggs were fertile or not, as plenty of fertile eggs don't develop. I was just being technical about the terms, I see a lot of people generically using the word "infertile" for any egg that doesn't hatch. I'm just a word geek.

Do you think your incubator might be an issue? What kind of incubator are you using? I had bad hatches with my own eggs (that I knew were plenty fertile and didn't have to go through the stress of shipping) until I got a new incubator. I just got the GQF Genesis...we need a Sportsman, but that won't be in the budget 'till next year, probably!

But that little Genesis is great for a styrofoam incubator. I've had much better luck with that than the GQF 1602 I was using. I still use the 1602 as a hatcher sometimes, with no major issues. Can you get ahold of some local eggs or use your own eggs that you know are fertile and do a test run, see what kind of hatch you have with those?

Don't give up yet!

Sometimes the process just needs a little tweaking!

I read somewhere on here that if the eggs were xrayed (some parcels get xrayed) then that would make them infertile. I ordered my eggs from people kinda close to me and the eggs didn't have to go thru any major hub (like los angeles) to get to here. I'll know next friday when I candle how my eggs are doing. Walmart now has that Rayovac outdoorsman flashlight in 45 lumens and 80 lumens. I got the 80 lumens one because I have blue & green eggs. It works great! it is 24.95.
