We have a 4 month old pullet who has had an on again off again DIARRHEA and is definitely the lowest on the pecking order. She has seemed fine in her activity and eating although always a bit timid. Today it seemed like her activity level dropped seriously and she had a very low to no interest in food. Our other 3 chickens seem fine. Could she have flu, worms or simply need an antibiotic of some kind? My chickens have never been wormed and we have never had any disease in our small flock.

She may have some lice which I dusted her for today.

Are there any good general antibiotics or immune/food boosters?

Thanks for any information and help.

Give her some yogurt. If she won't eat but will drink, you can mix up a human protein drink with no sugar for her.

Alfalfa is an appetite booster. If you can get some alfalfa leaves and make a tea with them, do that and mix it half and half with clear water. You can mix that with half and half protein drink as well. The point is to get some nutrition in her, not just water. Yogurt will keep her from being susceptible to bad bacteria that is in all chicken intestines... all they need is a little stress in their lives and these bad bacteria will take over.

Try giving her a hard boiled egg yolk. Generally, they will eat this.

Blueberries also stimulate the appetite and are anti-diarrheal. I keep them frozen and cut them into small pieces for them when they get like this. You can also grate up a little bit of apple as the pectin is anti-diarrheal... so is cheese...and cooked rice.

Your first priority is getting some nutrition into her so try the protein drink if she won't eat. Once she is drinking good, try putting a few of the items I mentioned in a separate dish for her to pick at. It will be thrilling when she empties that dish!
