Thanks for clarification of having hardware cloth over window. Also I wonder in the interm if I could just cut a hole and cover w hardware cloth if the roof awning wil protect from rain getting in.

Yes you could do just an opening with hardware cloth, it doesn't need to be a glass in frame window. Whether or not rain will get in depends on exactly where the windows/openings are in relation to winds, your roof overhang, etc. I do not have large overhangs on my roof however I have checked all my windows during a rainy windstorm (enough that it knocked power out) and the coop stayed completely dry even with all windows open.
