Once again treating my roo's legs for ????

My friend who owns more than 80 chickens gave me the advice about the Revolution on the neck, and it really did work. I actually had already applied the Rev. to my dogs (none left), so I just got some of the Sargeant's in a tube (over the counter) and put some of that on him. She thought it was a kind of mite that was doing the damage. Maybe do some reading on it and see what you think.

Do you think that would be ok, even though I already dusted him and gave him ivermectin on his neck a few weeks ago?

I don't know. I wish there were a vet you could call...I think I would try it, but I hate to try to give you advice on your bird, you know? You have a good photo, I think I would try sending it to any vets in the area that you can identify as an avian expert (google it?). I have a vet's name in my area that doesn't know me, but someone gave me her name and number in case I have a serious issue, and they suggested I call/email/send a photo if I'm really in a bind. I'm sorry. I wish I could be more help to you.

I'm in a similar pickle with a goat right now, that I don't know what's wrong with it and wish I knew someone who could just take a look.... sigh. Let me know how it turns out?

Quote: If you start a thread in the goat section on the forums I'll take a look. I am not an expert on goats but other folks who are would likely also check it. Everyone in their right mind loves to learn. ;) I've successfully treated some life threatening infections and diseases via natural methods including demodectic mange. (Apple Cider Vinegar baths fixed that).

About the chooks: it's possible that its a superbug that's immune to antibiotics. In this case the only remedy is the equivalent of chemo which could cost you the chook, or going back to natural remedies which are extremely hard for the 'bug' to become immune to. I would use raw freshly minced garlic in their diet to tackle it from the inside and I'd bathe and soak their feet in garlic brew, maybe with other antiseptic, vermifuge, antibacterial and antibiotic herbs. (Wormwood, sage, rosemary, oregano, etc... There are many).

Or I'd try Stockholm tar. I bet you that would do it. It's worked on gangrene and antibiotic-resistant golden staph.

If you're interested in trying it, the raw garlic in their diet can be a minimum of one clove per bird per day, the herbs can all be a sprinkled pinch per bird per day (very little needed in such small animals but overdose not a concern unless you're forcefeeding handfuls day in day out for a long time). Stockholm tar is simply pine boughs and wood, especially roots, boiled until the resinous tar is all that remains.

I know going against the pharmaceutical remedies can seem utterly foolish at best and outright insanity at worst, but despite my initial skepticism it has always worked for me. Sometimes it seems far too simple to possibly work and I've lost animals through not believing a natural remedy could work where man made ones fail.

Best wishes,

Does he free range on grass? My cousins had a dog allergic to grass and its stomach was always red and swollen looking. In wondering if it could be an allergy to something simple that he is always around like grass.

Thank you to all of you for the suggestions. I really appreciate them!
I feet them organic feed and put fresh organic chopped up oregano, organic garlic granuals, organic cinnamon and pro bios in there food each day. They get fresh food morning and night and they always have fresh water.
I would love to go the natural route with this but I'm not so sure it will work.
About 2 weeks ago when I gave him ivermectin on his back, it did seem to clear up about 50%. I was unaware that you are suppose to do it again 10 days later. So I guess I will start at square on Monday, as I am going away for a few days. Do the ivermectin on Monday then 10 days later. Soak his feet and legs with warm water and some antiseptic in it, then coat his feet and legs with coconut oil each night. Clean and spray his coop out and put in new bedding. Which I do each week anyway.
He does go outside each day in the run and free ranges every night for about an hour.
