Hi
I already have five 4 day old buff orp chicks and I was wondering if i could add 1 barred rock chick to the flock. I'm worried that it might get picked on since it's appearence was different. What are your thoughts on this? I'm concerned for when they are chicks and when they are full grown. Thanks!

I am new to all things chicken here, but it is my understanding that one hen that stands out has a better chance of being picked on by the rest. I am waiting on 3 buff ops, 3 black austro's and 2 br's. I could be wrong here, but I wanted to play it safe.

I've always got different colors mixed together, and everyone has always gotten along great. As long as they grow up together, they should be fine. Got pictures?

When i started my flock of br's, bo's, and rir's, the bo's were the ones to get picked on. I'm guessing that your br will be fine. It seems like they're kind of camouflaged so they're not so interesting to pick on.

birds of a feather flock together ...

could you get 2? that way if it's singled out at least it has a friend/someone to huddle with if they get cold etc?

thanks for the help guys- i think i may decide to get 2

If your chicks are only 4 days old you can put any breed of chick in with them even 1 day olds. I have put one day olds in with 1 week olds and have not had a problem. I think they don't really care about the colors, at least I have not seen any chick get picked on just because it was the only yellow or black one. Good luck with your chickies.
