One chick died, discovered second sick chick

Yes it is very dry here and the ants, gnats, and state birds of the South - Skeeters are everywhere. We did get a good rain last week 2 1/2 inches in one day. But it's been dry as a bone since. The water level is still in the draught range.

I just came in from doing the volcano thing on a small mound - that was great fun! Think it needed more vinegar or somthing cause I still see ants moving around.

How can I send you a picture of my little bittie's feet? Or how could I post the same photo that the University folks saw?

I hope you get rain and soon. Last summer we lived an hour from here and didn't have rain for 3 months. Everything was dying and the ants were terrible. We had them in the house too. One morning I went to my closet and pulled on a skirt that I had laying on a shelf. Didn't have anything on under it cause those things were in the dryer and I was heading that way when...I felt like I was getting stung everywhere. I ripped the skirt off and found fire ants all over me. I guess they were inside the skirt and all through the clothes I had folded on the shelves.

My friend opened a chocolate bar in a drawer and they were swarming all over it.

If I could torture them I would, I hate them so badly.

Where are you located? I'm in eastern North Carolina about 1 1/2 hrs from the coast.

We used to live in Charleston SC and they were bad there too.

Do you think I should continue with the antibiotic water or discontinue it? Her poo is still on the loose side but couldn't that be from the medication?

Until I hear from you again
Posey

On the medication, yes - you should use it for at least 5-7 days without ceasing. The runny droppings could be because of the antibiotics. Or stress. That's what the probiotics are good for though.

I'd love the pictures. You could PM me, or my email is at the bottom of these posts if you want. I'm curious to see what they saw.

Well we finally got our rain - not sure how much though. Ahhh but I know it'll tick the ants off. And yes- many a morning i've had ant bites on my feet from them finding my boots. Fun! I'd torture them, too.

I'm jealous that you did the volcano! I want to go play volcano with the ants now. heheh

For fire ant or wasp stings you should use benadryl, I don't remember the dosage but I'm if you search you can find it on here. Use the liquid children's benadryl, I have used it twice to save dogs life after venomous snake bites. It was necessary to follow with antibiotics because the swollen areas often get infected. You may be able to do that with topical cremes though.

Okay, I'm trying to figure out how to do the photo's on here.
Perhaps I was successful?

well I got the photos here but you can't really see her feet well enough. Sorry

Here she is this evening sitting on my shoulder. She's been sitting on my lap and climbs up my shirt to sit on my shoulder. She just sits there and chills for a while and then wants down to eat again. Yahoo, she's an eating machine and finally started to drink for herself.
