I had 14 eggs shipped to me and set them under my best broody. This is my 4th hatch with this broody but my very first time using shipped eggs. I didn't have great luck. Using my eggs I usually get a 80-95% hatch rate with healthy little ones but out of all 14 only 3 made it to 20 days and only one chick has hatched so far. The first chick hatched at 20 days and the other 2 show no signs of hatching anytime soon on day 22. They are all the same breed set at the same time. I coaxed her off for a second and candled them but can't see any internal pipping or movement. I put them back under her but was wondering when I should give up and take them from her so she can care for her one lonely chick? I've only ever had to wait a day in between the first to hatch and the last so not sure if these guys are still alive. She'll sit and sit until I take them :(. Thanks for any help!

Do you have an incubator or can you make one for those two eggs? I wouldn't have to much hope for them but wouldn't want to discard them either. The float test might be a good idea, as pp mentioned.

I haven't tried the float test, I'm not sure how it works. I keep watching videos about it but not sure if I'm supposed to look just for movement or other things as well??

I don't have an incubator yet. Haven't needed one with all my broodies doing such a great job this year. I've not had a single hatch problem all year until these shipped eggs. After this I think I'll get one though. Still nothing today so far but the baby chick that did hatch has access to food and water and keeps snuggling up under mom so I guess I can wait another day or so. I was really hoping to move them off my porch, we have a wedding reception tomorrow in my yard and my broody is in a crate at the momment :).

Thanks for all the help! I ended up float testing them and candled again just to make sure and they were not alive :( . It looks like they died at day 18, almost there but not quite. I moved momma and baby and they are doing great. Just one little this round for me. I'm not sure I'll do shipped eggs again.
