One chick is attacking another chick

I would really like some help guys, I feel really bad for this chick, and I really don't know what I should do. I have 3 chicks, 2 lavender ameraucanas and one black ameraucana. However, one of the lavenders is developed than the other, it is almost fully feathered and they are all 4 weeks old. This ameraucana is attacking the black ameraucana brutaly and I let my chickens free range with their mama that hatched them, and it just won't stop. It bites near the neck of the black ameraucana and chases after it. Why would it be attacking just that chick? When they were younger, they would do the chest bump thing, but I understood that it was for the pecking order. I can't really seperate them from their mom, so I'm scared for the black ameraucana.

I would highly suggest that you isolate that poor black ameracana. If you have a place you can put the poor thing so she has her own water and feed where the others can't get to her all the better. If you allow it to stay with the others that are pecking on her it will turn bloody, and from there it's downhill.....

I had this problem and used anti-pecking spray....a foul smelling, tasting spray.....and it took two applications, three days apart, to cure the problem.

Sounds like someone needs a time out! I agree with iwiw60 - separate the poor baby being picked on. Either that, or separate the aggressive chick for a few days - that might help knock it down a peg or two. You absolutely can separate the chick from momma - chicks are hatched & raised in brooders all the time and they turn out just fine.

I agree. I wish the original poster would post a picture of his/her setup. Could very well be that they are over-crowded, too hot, any number of things.....sigh....
