One chick pecking at the other and drew blood....

Well I wasn't going to be home, so I only separated her since earlier I did see one of the other's pecking at the cut to. Better safe than sorry. I want to be able to watch them. You know what I did notice and I am unsure of what it means, when I had put them outside earlier today they all kept laying down on their sides, but the wounded chick in particular did it the most. Do they just like the warm sun and the grass, or is this a submissive type of behavior? I don't really see them doing it inside the house, only when they are out in the grass.

The chicks do love the sun and just being outside. That is probably what they are doing.

If they see blood they will all pick at her. That would be the reason for the blu-kote. If you use a red heat bulb that may help as well.

A friend of my husband (who also has chickens) says that somthimes triming the tip of the beak helps to stop the pecking. Have you heard of this?

I posted pics on another thread, for a separate issue I am having. Do you think you could take a look and see if you think the big white one is a roo?
