one chicken dead another one sick

We had 10 California whites. Last week when we went to let them out of the coop to roam around in the yard, one had the back end gone and her cone was turning black. We put her down. Then today we went to put them up in there coop and one hen was not eating, standing off to herself with her mouth open and saliva running out of her mouth. We separated her and noticed she is breathing very hard. I am new to raising chickens and wandered if someone could tell me what it is and is it contagious for the other chickens? i thought maybe a racoon had got the 1st hen but now I am not sure.

sounds like two things at work here, a predator attacking your first hen and the other having some illness. Hope the emergency thread people will get your squared away with what it may be and how to treat.
