I have a 2 month old Golden wyadotte named Shaka Kahn- She is maniacally hand shy. We've had her since she was three weeks old ( got alltogether a flock of seven- three plymouth rocks, two buff orpingtons, one Jersey giant- all great birds except for the **** wyandotte). We try sitting with her and petting her often so she'll calm down- something that all the other chickens like- but Shaka refuses to be touched . It's difficult when I have to catch her. She doesn't respond to treats. She is impossible. Her high drama makes the six other chickens go bananas and act less domesticated. She is upsetting the peace. My husband wants to shoot her with his bow. Is she just a bad seed? Any suggestions?
Thanks, hope

I would....

A) Sell her. Put her on craigslist or such and get a few bucks for her. It is quite possible that if she were put into a different flock that her attitude would change.

B) Take her out of the flock for a few days by shutting her by herself in a cage. A little "down time" might re-program her.

C) Butcher her, although I doubt that there's enough meat there to fool with.

Please don't shoot her with a bow and arrow, it just doesn't sound like a fast, humane death.

Thanks for your suggestion, Chicky.
I will cage her separately for a couple days and keep my fingers crossed.
She's really good at foraging,
so I'd rather find a way to keep her- we got them for bug control and eggs. My husband wouldn't really shoot her. He just longs to when she's pulling crazy attitude. We'd sooner sell her. But I'm going to separate her right away.
