One Chicken Mean to One Other Chicken

So there are plenty of posts about one chicken in the flock being targeted, but what if it is just beef between two chickens? I feel my heart break a little more every time my little Speckled is pecked or chased by the mean SLW. The poor thing is so skittish now. She barely eats crumble (even though I have a couple feeding stations) and won't dare touch any treats for fear for her life. None of the other hens give a rip, so it isn't like she is a widely known victim. It has only appeared in the last couple days (that I know of, though I haven't paid a ton of attention), so do I wait a couple days and see if they figure it out? I don't want to lose my sweet speckled's personality, but today all I see is sulking and fear. Would removing the bully resolve the issue? Or would I (sadly) need to remove the speckled? I don't see any bald patches (yet), but I DID see the SLW grab hold of a clump of feathers on her back and chase her around the run without letting go and there was squawking all along the way. Help!

Someone recently wrote that they isolated the mean girl and after a period of isolation they returned to the flock without the obsession of pecking at their victim.

I haven't tried it but you might want to give it a go and see if it works for you.

I’d remove the Wyandotte , mine was a nasty girl til her sister died, shaking her up changed her attitude.

Also removing the bully allows you to see if the other one just gets bullied from another one, then you can decide if you need to rehome anyone .

Just put a dog kennel in the run, add a perch, food & water . She can’t peck but she’s still there , hope she doesn’t get her “girls “ to peck her

That's a really good idea, thank you. I think I'll wait and see how things go tomorrow, and if needed I will separate a part of the run just for the meany. See if the flock settles down and is peaceful or if the little guy still gets pecked. We'll see who needs to go on a trip to Grandpa's farm

I’m just glad that my dominant hen is my Red sex link.
The 2nd one, Penelope (SLW) rose from last in the pecking order and tried to take Red’s spot but was unsuccessful.
Since she became 2nd she relentlessly chases and pecks Coco (SLW) and Pepper (SLW) from food, treats and on the roost at bedtime.
If Penelope isn’t around Coco will do it.
If Penelope and Coco aren’t around Pepper will do it.

Bedtime is bad for everyone because the Wyandottes come in last and throw everyone else, except Red, off the roosts so they can be up top.
I’m going to be rehoming them to my friend soon and am looking forward to some peace and quiet (they’re also very noisy!).
No more Wyandottes for me.
Not a fan.

Oh my word!? I am so glad I met someone else who doesn't like them either! I was so confused and disappointed...I thought SLWs were supposed to be gorgeous friendly birds, but they are definitely my least favorite. Plus they are so skittish and ornery. If you plan to get more chickens, might I recommend Golden Comets? They are beautifully golden birds with such sweet and gentle personalities

I was so confused and disappointed...I thought SLWs were supposed to be gorgeous friendly birds, but they are definitely my least favorite. Plus they are so skittish and ornery. I also have Naked Neck/Turken chickens and I love them.
They have great personalities, even my two cockerels.
I recently got chicks too.
Speckled Sussex, Australorps, partridge Rocks and Silver Penciled Rocks and two Easter Eggers.
I got those breeds because nobody complained about them being mean.
I want a good flock.
I know there’s a pecking order but with these Wyandottes it’s ridiculous.
I also have a mixed flock of bantams and they’re very sweet.

Yeah I’m going to end up with 16 large fowl birds and 7 bantams.
I live on half an acre and we have two coops, one of which is a big 10x6 foot walk in that my husband built.
I hope things settle down for you.
