Hello, I’m looking for advice what to do for my chicks vent
She is a silkie and she has had problems with her vent since I brought her home at 3 weeks she’s now 5
She had pasty butt and the day after I soaked her and got the poop removed she’s had these issues. Maybe I wasn’t gentle enough ?
I have soaked her in Epsom salts a couple times, I have used Preparation H and I’ve tried pushing it back in. When I try to push it in, she pushes it back out almost immediately and it pulses.
She still eats drinks and poops and seems to be doing fine otherwise.
Any advise? It is becoming more protruded. When I first got her it wasn’t this bad.
She gets chick starter, chick grit and electrolytes.

Hi,

I would stop the electrolytes as that should just be short-term, like half a day now and then, mostly when they're stressed.

I had a silkie like this, and did what you're doing. I did the soaks and Prep H mixed with Desitin 3-4 times a day, and put pressure for a couple of minutes.

It was never bleeding and never too swollen, just out there. She basically outgrew it I guess as after a couple of weeks, I just let it go. As she aged, it shrank, and mostly went back in. She grew to lay eggs just like the rest.

Yours may have a quicker outcome, but it's a matter of persistence in my opinion.

Mine as a chick, then at around a 6 weeks.

On the left. You can see it still protruding.
