We had 4 chickens but after 3 of them died very close time wise, (old age, tumour and in her sleep) we are now left with 1 chook on her own. We are getting some more but not for a few weeks. Any suggestions to make sure the one we have left doesn't get lonely.
We keep popping out and she is getting treats in the afternoon but I can't help feeling sorry for her. Oh and to top it off she's started moulting.

Could you get one friend for her now? it would make flock integration easier on her when you add the other birds. Adding one bird to a group sometimes doesn't go so well. Adding two is safer.

It'll pretty much be lonely even if you get the new chicken right away, chicken only stick with ther own flock, they'll need a time to adapt with a new one.

When I had one lone chicken because her 3 siblings turned out to be roosters, I got young pullets. I got 7 of them (2 were POL) and she loved it. It didn't take her long to adjust to the new chickens, only about a day or two.
