I have a couple hens that are still fairly young and just now reaching laying age. One of them did lay an egg last week, though, and I've gotten nothing since. Is this normal for them to not lay again for a while after their first egg?

Also, the egg was like gray/blue and very small. Could this be because it's a new chicken or will all its eggs be this color?

I've had first eggs as little as an inch. Quite normal, some gain in size is also normal, each hen being an individual case. All we can do really is sit and watch.

Yeah, we've had chickens once before and I knew the eggs would be small starting out. I was wondering about the coloring.

I'm really more concerned about the fact that we've only gotten one egg, and that was a week ago. Since then, nothing!

Nothing you described is out of the ordinary. The color is breed related, she's probably an easter egger of some kind. They can lay green eggs. She'll lay that color for life. It's also not unusual for new layers to take a break after starting up, she'll start again when she's ready. Nothing to do but watch and wait
