im a new duck owner I’ve never done this before and i have two brand new ducklings I’m trying to raise as pets one of them only has one eye open and one closed this just happened today he opens it sometimes but closes it back right away i called the store where i got him from they said it’s probably an eye infection they gave me terramycin to put on his eye . My mom told me to take a qtil with water mixed with salt to clean it ...am i doing the right thing ?should i take it to a vet ?will it go away? how long will it take ?I’m freakin g out and just want him to be okay

I'd make sure the little one can dunk it's head to clean it's eyes out could be he got dust from feed in it. This link shows a pic of how to make a home made waterer for ducklings.

and it will not hurt one bit to put some Terramycin eye ointment in the little ones eye. In case it maybe an infection. Make the waterer watch to make sure it's cleaned out it eyes and nares real well then use the eye ointment. @liliannet

How do i get it in his eye he won’t open it for me and I’ve tried to open it myself but he won’t let me i don’t want to force to hard and hurt him

Just take you finger and spread it around the outer part of her eye. Actually you need to wrap the duckling in a towel like a burrito and open the eye. That way you can tell how irritated it may be. Do it gently you’ll not hurt it then put some of the rye ointment in the eye. It won’t take a lot. Have you seen it dunking it’s head?
