One has PIPPED!/HATCHED!!! Update...

Oh yea, Cyn, I am now the proud owner of a naked neck. Oh boy, just what I always wanted! (Thats sarcasm, by the way).
Actually I cant believe how well the lone ranger is taking her by her lonesomeness. I guess since she never had other peeps with her, she doesnt know better. She is pecking at everything, I have her in your post office box you sent the eggs in.
lau.gif

What I was GOING to put them in, didnt seem appropriate! I have that non skid stuff in there and she is pecking on it, then peckin at the warm mash I have in there, then pecking at her toes, then peckin at the thermometer I put in there, then the fur on the stuffed cat, just everything. She is so cute to watch. I hate to tell you this, but instead of putting the heat lamp on, I put this little small wat disco lamp in, and it spins with the heat. Well, at first it made her a bit dizzy, but now she goes round and round it. She tried to go round it when I had it in the corner, but then she got almost caught and was spun around and didnt like that much. Crazy lil thing. So I put it in the middle of her lil box, and she circles it like its prey. lol
Oh my gosh, just as I am typing this...her first poop! She just did her first poop. And its a BIG one. And oh dang, its right on the thermometer, of all things.
Well, anyhow...thats why I was callin her the disco chick. It probably imitates the brooder light more closely than anythin else, so she seems to kind of like it.

Yea I am sure the heat was just too much, who knows if the postal guys had it cool the whole time, even tho they WERE fairly fast. I am sure they HAD to shake it, cuz like I said, no development and man, you packed them for being in a tornado and still being good. lol
Let me think on trying again, with my luck they would ALL hatch this time and getting on into winter...eeeks.
I LOVE fall, but winter I could do without.
Jill

Oh yea, there were five from Lexie. Only one had any development at all, and that was Lexie1. That was the one that was breach.

So Lexie's are the only ones that held up. This lil girl here must be a miracle.

All the others were yolk with no development whatsoever, so I dont think it was the bad eggs either. Just nothing. They had to have gotten damaged beyond repair.

You just let me know if you want more. I have some I could get out on Monday, if you do, and they include Caroline's. I'm actually incubating one, just one, of Velvet's eggs because they dont appear exactly fertile, but not exactly infertile. Hard to describe and I know what a fertile egg looks like. I just decided the only way to find out for sure was to incubate one and candle it after five or six days. It just kills me that Miranda's didn't hatch and I know for certain they are fertile. Again, DARN!
On the other hand, take it as a learning experience. Now you know how your bator operates, all its eccentricities, etc. Your experience isn't unusual for a first time, so take heart! The next one has to be better.

Yea, I know, I so wanted to see what Miranda's and Suede's babies would look like. Double darn from me as well!
I would have to wait several weeks on the eggs if I did get them, I have to go to our cabin to take care of winterizing, and I dont want to leave while incubating. We usually close it up by first of October, so I might take you up on it later in the fall, or when I get bored in the cold weather, if its ok with you. Just have so much to do and I just cant tear myself away when I have babies.

Thanks so much for offering tho, I do appreciate all youve done. I do love this incubator I got from Jaynie, it doesnt lose much heat at all when I turn the eggs myself.
Oh, Jaynie, in case your wondering, I had to disconnect the egg turner becuz my friends eggs were so fragile and thin shelled that several cracked in the turner the first nite. I am surprised any hatched at all, but two looked like they had chicks when I candled last, and I guess I was right on one at least!

Oh and this naked neck baby, s/he is LOUD. Makes lil lone ranger sound like she doenst have a voice. I dont think I have ever heard such a quiet chick. I guess she is just happy! Now this mornin she got chilled, and she was crying, but even then she wasnt loud. But these are lil happy sounds, I love to hear that. I missed hearing the lil happy sounds mine made as chicks. Never liked the caterwaulin much, but it comes with the territory!

sorry about the eggs, Jill. when that little nn/silkie hatches you need to send pictures, and take many when they are developing. May that is going to be one strange looking bird.

Thanks for all the finger crossin everyone!

I do appreciate it.

Just checked out the other eggs, the friends. Only two had started embryo's and those were the two that had gotten cracked. Looked like they developed to about day 5 or 6, then the air or bacteria must have killed them.

Well I have two, the NN, oh its a bantam by the way. Its still in the incubator staying warm, and the other is in the brooder, as she is totally dry and eating and jumping and generally being full of personality, vim, and vinagar. A lil spitfire she is.
She grabbed the corner of the nonskid stuff in the corner and just pulled for all she was worth. Of course, she wasnt able to move it, much to her frustration! I guess she was trying to rearrange her furniture!

I knew there was a reason I liked you... Disco light for Chickens.
You need to get em a little white suit with bell bottom pants.
Well, I hope you had fun anyway, sorry you didn't get what you really wanted but,
Grats on the two you did get.
Do you plan to keep them, if not, are you likely to end up unable to get rid of them due to attachment later on
lol.png

Anxious to see your pics when you get em

Congrats on the 2 babies. Can't wait to see pictures of them. It's hard when you only get a couple to hatch after waiting 3 weeks on them. I candled mine last night and so far 5 look good 4 look like a no go and 1 looks like it might have a blood ring. I'm waiting until next week before pulling any out.

Jill, I'm glad you're at least getting a little entertainment out of this after all your hard work, LOL. I hope little DiscoChick is a girl. How's the headspot? Even if it appears to be a cockerel, dont be too hasty. Lexie's babies can be confusing for a few weeks in some cases, LOL.
Did you definitely decide against trying again right now? If so, I'm going to post the eggs I'm collecting FS in BST section today.

Wow
this morning I overslept to 7:10 am, to have my sis wake me saying
"Red wants out, she needs to lay her egg" and
"Lily is hungry"
Boy having children sometimes....sigh

Disco chick is really gettin her excercise, she seems to be a very strong chick. I am using a lid for her food bowl, and she was grabbing it and yankin it around this morn like a prisoner behind bars with their cup. She says that idea chicks can live 3 days without food or water is for the birds.

The lil naked neck is not throwing herself around near like this one, she just sits calmly, but when she does yap, you can really hear her. I took the nn out for a minute to put in with disco and she came over and pecked her. Not only did she peck, she pecked and Pulled. Goodness! I shouldnt be surprised, she pecks everything! Anyhow, the little nn is still not standing or running around much yet, so I put her back in the bator, just using it right now to keep her warm til she gains strength. She seems sooo tiny. But she hasnt even hatched 24 hours ago, yet, so will give her time. They sure are fun to watch and I put off working til today, so gotta go for about 6 hours, darn!

Thanks everyone for reading, and crossing their fingers for me. I have these two and actually with that unbearable heat we had (most everyone knows how bad that was) when I got these, and my first experimental hatch, I am glad for that, its really about a 10% hatch rate.

Steve, where do I find white bell bottoms in chick size? lol You gonna make some? Leave off any spangles, she mite eat them.
