One hen just laid three soft shelled eggs within an hour!

I have six pullets who have started laying within the past three weeks. This morning when I let them out around 6:30 there were no eggs to collect. I was at work all day and then running children around so it was 7:30 tonight when I was able to get back out to check for the day's eggs.

I collected 6 nice eggs from the nesting boxes, but noticed one hen sitting in the run. I took the eggs to the house and when I came back she had laid an egg with a soft shell. She got up and went about her business. I then watched her lay another egg that I couldn't even pick up. It broke and the yolk came out. Then she laid another one just as thin. While I was putting the smaller chicks in their coop for the night, she went into to her coop and climbed up on the roost for the night.

Do you think this is just normal beginning layer stuff? I will be keeping an eye on her, but was wondering if anyone had similar experiences?

Because she is new to laying it might be a blip in her system. Keep a close eye on her. She might be predisposed to being an internal layer. Unfortunately chickens can have physical abnormalities like people. I've had my share of 'different' chickens. One had only one eye and another had one leg much shorter than the other. Both did very well. They adapted. Inside 'plumbing' problems are another story. I hope she is just having a bad day and tomorrow everything will be right on schedule and normal.
