Hi

One of my hens lays the biggest egg but it has a band around the middle like it was two halfs which have been over lapped.

Sometimes it has tiny cracks in it also.

Is this just one of those things or can something be done food wise to help or something ?

Will it change over time on its own ?

I have one that lays an egg like that also, not everyone, but I would say 3 out of 5. I think its just a chicken thing and not much you can do about it. Mine have free access to grit, oyster shell, layer crumbles & scratch & treats daily, as well as several hours of free range when weather permits so I don't think its because its lacking anything. I just make sure that I keep and use that egg myself and only sell my best eggs. I have not found there to be anything wrong with the eggs like that, but I wouldn't use it for hatching.

My girls lay those kind of eggs from time to time.
Do they actually have cracks, or do they look more like wrinkles? I get eggs that look like they have wrinkles right on the shell.
Mine have everything Azriel's chickens have, except mine get pellets as opposed to crumbles. It is just one of those things that happen from time to time. I don't think it is anything to be worried about.

I mix pellet, corn & grit as their feed every day. Guess what is left by night time
