One hen making a moaning sound and squeaky hiccup

She sounds like she is having stridor, a sound made when there is something stuck in the airway. That could be a small piece of feed, a mucus plug from a respiratory infection, or swelling. The squeaky hiccup is a little sneeze. Let us know if she is still doing this in the morning. It sometimes clears up within a few hours.

Thank you for the reply. I pray you’re right. Once I started reading up on respiratory illness I started getting a bit terrified. So many possible ailments. Makes your head spin!

I’ll report back in the morning. Thank you!

I am glad that she has stopped making the sound. If she does it again, it could be that she is eating too fast and getting feed stuck in her throat. I had one hen do it repeatedly for awhile. Some feed can have a lot of powder that settles out in it, and adding a bit of water to a small portion daily may help use up any powdery feed.
