We have a legbar hen who's one eyes seems to be irritated. She keeps closing/squinting it but there no discharge, swelling or discoloration. The other side seems normal. Yesterday from when first noticed it to an hour later she was progressively acting more lethargic, I put them up and she was just sitting in the run, head on the ground. Put her in quarantine, probiotics and electrolytes in water. She's drinking and eating just fine and seems pretty much back to normal behavior-wise, but her eye is still squinty. I checked for mites, she's pooped and it was watery but normal, no signs of respatory issues-
Honestly if she hadn't been acting a little lethargic yesetday I would just have assumed she poked her eye while foraging. Does anyone have any advice or thoughts? I might be overreacting, but we lost 3 girls in the past 6 weeks (heat, kidney issues, predation) so I'm feeling extra paranoid.

You can flush the eye with some sterile saline or an eye wash (veterycin makes one) to make sure there is not any debris in there. You can use terramycin eye ointment (some tractor supply stores or feed stores carry it) or plain neosporin in the eye a couple of times a day to help prevent infection.

I would treat the eye twice a day as Coach recommended. Watch for eye foam or bubbles, mucus from nostrils or beak, or noisy breathing which could be a respiratory disease. Tylosin or Denagard are antibiotics to treat those.
