Hey guys. I'm new to BYC. Had chickens for a few months now, so still learning this thing! :)

Here's the summary of where I am today: Four chickens were laying great, getting 3-4 eggs/day. Had a run-in with a possum or raccoon that killed 3 of 4 hens. Have one Leghorn left. It took a couple weeks, but she got back to normal after the attack (she had a minor bite in neck).
After that, she went broody. I remember reading that Leghorns rarely, if ever, go broody. She's a totally different chicken now, even seems like she has gained weight.
Anyway, do you think her broodiness is just natural or a way of coping with being alone? Should I try to break her? Do chickens operate better when in group vs alone? I am planning on getting some more hens in a next few weeks.

Any guidance would be much appreciated!

I'm sorry about your other hens.

As for your leghorn, this is a wonderful opportunity! Get some day-old chicks or hatching eggs of any breed you want and you can just let her raise them! This way they're won't be any fighting and she will get along well with all of them.
My leghorn, Sandy, went broody and hatched out three chicks and raised them wonderfully! She did, however, apparently eat one of her chicks whole because it disappeared in a cage it couldn't have possibly escaped from. That chick we helped hatch too early, so it may have died while with her and she was cleaning up.
