I bought a little 3 pound capacity hanging feeder and filled it with oyster shell. Sounded like a good idea at the time but figured maybe i better ask, never to late right??

I give Oyster Shell, free access here...cooked, crushed egg-shell also free access. This way they can utilize it whenever their bodies need it.

Yep, that will work fine. The older your hens become, the more oyster shell they will consume. This is because of the constant need for calcium from the stress of laying over a long period of time.

The shells of all the eggs I use go back to my girls. While eggs are frying in the pan, shells are baking in the oven. I have a metal bowl that I toss them in. Pop it in the oven as it preheats. When it beeps, I turn off the oven and just leave them in there. After they are cool, I crush them and toss in the next eggs I use and continue the process. When I get a bunch of treats we mix them in the same bowl and toss them in the run.
