Hello. I want to raise chickens! I love the idea of fresh eggs in the morning! My Granddad raised chickens for a young company getting started in Arkansas years ago, called Tyson's!

My first order is coming from Ideal on Oct. 20, today is Oct. 11. I have the run built; secure from hawks and rodents! I live in Arizona, so hawks and bobcats are a real problem here. I imagine badgers and raccoons could be also, however, that is why the run was built in a corner of the block wall around my home. And why a structure of netting & shade cloth is secured over the enclosure.

The plans are drawn for the house. I have grown cross-eyed with all the wonderful information on this site, as well as others; and am happy with what I have in mind. Cash is a problem, so while my chicks grow I will save & save! I board horses and sell candles for Gold Canyon Candle Company for my 'lively-hood'. Please check out SmellyCandles.com---for a clean burning long lasting, reasonably priced candle--that will fill your home with fragrance!! Sorry for the shameless plug! A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

I am waiting for 5 Americana's & 5 Leghorn's! That is so small compared to what most of you do---I know--but I'm scared I'm gonna mess this up! So, I don't want to 'risk' doing something harmful---to too many babies!!

Again, Hello! I am excited and nervous for the arrival of the 'children'! But thrilled for the information contained here!

THANKS!

Welcome! I am also new to chickens and I am from the Arizona desert. If I would add anything to your post it would be that you can never over protect your girls. Bobcats and coyote can scale a block wall before you even know they are there. Have fun with your chicks and we're glad to have you here. There is a Arizona Chickens thread! Check it out!

Thanks for the replies!!

I appreciate the info maggiemooscluckers----I wonder if the trampoline netting secured around the walls & wood structure will be enough?

Dang! I hope I get a few nights of sleep after the chicks come!

Thank YOU!!
