Long story short, my first batch has been a bumpy ride but we are so beyond excited!!! I thought we had failed the entire batch. We were about to discard the eggs on Saturday (Thursday was day 21) and start over when my daughter in law spotted what looked like a pip. We very quickly took steps to close the incubator, bring heat and humidity back up. When we went to bed we had two pips. By 4 am we had a hatch!!! So we had one sweet baby and at least six more pipped. Now we have six fluff butts that are very hungry and number 7 still trying to get out. The other six are knocking it around and pecking at the chick. So it's been pipped since at least sometime Saturday night. Should I leave it or try removing the other and get the humidity back up or what?? Advice appreciated!!

PS... I am definitely better prepared for my next attempt. I believe my temps were running about 97 rather than 100. When I came to the conclusion that my thermometer was off I slipped in another and adjusted. That was on Friday (day 22).

I'm so glad you got some chicks.

Yes, if it's been pipped for 36+ hours it needs help. Read the assisted hatching thread and decide if that's something you'd like to take on. Be aware there is usually reasons they don't hatch. Once it's out of the egg the chick could have leg issues and failure to thrive. It will likely need extra support and TLC for the first week. If they make it through that then they're like a normal chick. If you can't handle that then let nature take it's course. But if you'd like to assist now is the time.
