I am so sad. We got the chicks 3 days ago and all has been going well. I was with them for awhile this morning and all were eating, drinking and playing. I got some cute pictures and video. Then I heard one start chirping so I came right down to check on them. One chick's head was at a weird angle, like it kept falling to the right and she couldn't stand up. I was immediately concerned and called the hubby and our friend who raises chickens (these are our first). I checked on here and found that she likely had "stargazing" so told the hubby to go get electrolytes and vitamins. The poor chick couldn't even stand up and I was so worried. So I held her on my chest for about an hour (all snuggly, cuddly, warm and happy) while waiting for my hubby to arrive with the meds. He got home and I tried to give her the water/meds but she refused. Suddenly she pooped on me so I laid her softly on a towel and told my hubby to stand next to her while I cleaned my shirt. He said softly "honey, she isn't breathing anymore". She must've pooped on me as she died. I admit it, I burst into tears. Just so heartwretching to see the little love die so quickly. I'm happy she felt love, and warmth and cuddling for her last hour but still so sad she died. I know it happens, I know that is life... but still :( Will have to tell my children when they get home from school. Not looking forward to that.

How many do you have that are still alive? Mortality at less than 10% is considered good.

One of my chicks passed away too this morning when I checked on them they were all fine. Then I went back after I took the kinds to school and found her dead. I am sad too it really sucks. Just don't know what happened.
