Bad news. One of my button quail has passed away. I woke up, went to their tank, and I found her/him dead. They hatched in January (This year) which is WAY too young! The only thing I can think of that caused this is that the eggs they hatched from were left in a garage for 3-4 weeks. It wasn't 2 weeks at all like I thought. I am starting to think, should I have taken the eggs from the garage? Was it bad that I gave them a second chance?

Here they are as chicks. The one that passed was no-stripe.

Edit: WOW. You are all very nice and polite! I just don't know what to say!

Lots of things could have caused this bird to pass on. The only way to truly know why is to have a necropsy done on them.

So sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. And I agree with everyone else it is more then just a bird, was it just your mother?!?! Stupid people have no hearts. ah well we must go on. Good luck with the others.

I am so sorry, I have hatched ours as pets for eggs and we have one that was always the weaker who now seems to have trouble getting about like the others as something is up with his legs. They are three weeks old (we have 7) and I must admit I have become too attached to Little Steve. He seems not to do as much as the others these days, though he does eat and drink, but i worry one day i will come down in the morning and he will have slipped away in the night. To be honest i get teary now just thinking of it, but also at the thought he may be sad or suffering.. He needed a little help out the egg which i know is wrong, but i also couldnt watch him struggle and never know life. I'm too soft and love them too much. I'm also pregnant so i know my maternal hormones are all over the place! I am so sorry and feel your loss. Esp as they are so innocent and adorable and helpless. x

Button quail eggs keep fertility for 7 days, so if your eggs were 3-4 weeks old, they would have never hatched. Umm. For your bird that died, he could had internal problems. Sorry for your loss.:D
