All chickens will go to their "home" to roost when it starts getting dark. That doesn't mean that they can't be influence by other chickens that sleep in trees.
With chickens it's like Monkey see, Monkey do.

i had a Dorking Cockerel that always ran away when given the chance to free range. So now as rooster he lives in a pen with meat bird hens and some dorking ladies... some of his children will be end up in ovens, frying pans and crockpots.
