I have 2 ducks, one was taken by a hawk. Is it ok to get new baby ducklings to raise with the remaining duck? Is it ok for her to be without another duck for 5 weeks?

Best thing is to separate the brooder so tiny ducklings are on one side 5 week old on the other. Tinies with heat 5 week old with out. After a week start letting them have some time together with supervision. Main thing is letting them see each other but big one can’t step on or pick on the baby. Very sorry for your loss.

Thanks so much

I am so sorry this is constantly happening with my ducklings and it breaks my heart. I hear the Mama screaming and I mean screaming and everytime I hear that I run to help but it's always to late :hit and the sounds she makes trying to find them is gut wrenching and breaks my heart in pieces so I know exactly how you are feeling and I'm so sorry :hugs I'm trying to come up with something to keep them away. I'm glad you asked these questions because I'd love to know the answers also.

Ok, I'm just trying to be practical here. If your ducks were taken it's probably because they were free-ranging or had no cover overhead to protect them. That happened to me ONCE. ONCE! The next day I had netting overhead. Maybe that is not possible for you but it is the only way you can prevent this from happening again if you let them free range. I hope you will get them safe and undercover.
