Ok, so one of my girls has been visiting with the neighbors flock. We brought her back and kept an eye on her. She was a good girl and stayed home the following night. However, last night she not only went to roost over at the neighbors house, she brought 2 others with her!!! They didn't actually get to roost Inside the coop, but it is all covered etc. next to the coop. I was out in the pouring rain for over an hour looking for them. This morning, there were feathers(mostly downy ones) in two spots, but nothing else. My guess is an owl got her. We don't have foxes around here that I know of to have carried her off. She was mostly white, whereas the others were deep buff/red - maybe they blended in a bit more? I felt awful for my neighbor and went over and cleaned up the feathers. They were worried though that now a predator knows there are chickens over there. I guess, but we had one of our chickens eaten on our property last year, and there hasn't been an incident since. Aside from this, of course. Still, I told them not to worry overly much - this happened because the chicken was outside at night, not because something raided a coop. Anyway, thanks for letting me just chatter about the days events!!! Have a happy and safe evening!!!
