Help, I have 4 hens and 2 roosters (we used to have 13 total chickens but some evil loose dogs attacked and killed 7 of our babies in one fell swoop:(
anyway, one hen is loosing feathers on her head ( I initially thought she was sick, but am now guessing that our big rooster is pecking them out when he mates??) What do you guys think? I really dont want to get rid of our roosters (yet) as we have two small kids who (along with me were DEVASTATED by the massacre of our other babes at only 6 months) Is there anyway to keep this from happening ? Is it a health problem to the hen or just unsightly? I care about them all and we are definitely new to the chicken thing (we got all our babes last October). Please let me know what you think. Thanks

mi hens have that too..It is from mating. The roo holds on to their heads-my girls are bald in a straight line from ear to ear. I cant stop him from doing that..luckily-their backs ae still great-he hasnt torn them up like that yet...
