Don't give me that look, I did not mistake a young cockerel for a hen. One of my year and a half old Buff Orpington hens mounted my other BO hen this afternoon. Sallie got away just as Pot Pie got on top so the girl on girl action didn't go any further than third base, but it was close there for a second. I glanced out the back door just in time to see an astonished Sallie get waylaid.

Has anyone else ever seen this behavior?

Do you have any roosters? The dominant hen will often take on the "role" of rooster if there is none around....

Oh yes, I've got a great Golden-Laced Wyandotte roo. He's always been with them, they grew up together since I got them as day old chicks. He keeps busy, too....
It was so strange I couldn't believe my eyes, Pot Pie grabbed a beakful of Sallie's neck feathers and hopped on. Sallie may have been more surprised than I was, but not by much.
