I have 4 pekins who are 6 weeks old and growing beautifully. Today I noticed one of them pecking at all the others. I did not sex them when I got them, so I can't address the "male, female" thing. Is this one just being a bossy pants? Also, I was just told about the "drake feather". Will my males all have that curly feather? If so, when can I expect to start seeing that little flip? I may have to do some name changing

We just got drake feathers on my 14 week old Pekins yesterday. Why change names?

I don't know about the bossypants issue. I have one that's been doing that for awhile and they are both boys.

I'm so glad to hear it took 14 weeks. I have 2 Pekings that are 12 weeks. One is a definite girl, very loud quack. One is a definite boy, hardly any quack at all. But the third and critical one (was claimed by my granddaughter as a tiny duckling is still a mystery. The quack is right in between the two, but I am leaning more towards a girl. It is just a little more raspy than the other hen, but much louder and better than the drakes. I'm hoping for another hen - want lots of eggs and babies.

Hello,
Well I just adopted 2 more Pekins, 1 a drake & 1 a hen to go along with my 4 others Pekins, 3 drakes & a hen.....

The recently adopted ones are named Bonny & Clyde (by the SPCA) because they escaped a nature preserve and were rounded up by the S.P.C.A.
First of all...These two have brains....I have talked about my other 4 in the past on this list....they DON"T have brains.....stupider than a stump!

So the two new ones B. & C. have already taken over being dominate.....they are pecking the necks of the other drakes, they are trying to mount the other hen, peck at her, chase the four around the yard if they try to get "bossy" at all.
They actually know enough to swim in the water tray I set out....drill like ducks do....do the duck head bob, do the "duck dance" and all other things that ducks do! I have never seen the other 4 do any of this, but over the years I have seen many other ducks do all of the above.

The four other Pekins, Huey, Louie, Dewey, & Daisy just don't have any leadership in them
(they all 4 randomly run all over the yard no direction but all in a group) at all so it appears that Bonnie & Clyde are taking over even after just one day....they have been watching the four other ducks I guess!

I'll let you know more tonight when pen time comes and all 6 are in together.
