One of the Marans is Laying!

With nice color considering she's a hatchery bird not a breeder bird.

I hope it's not the one I've marked for selling.

The line of very dirty eggs is because the last couple days after my being in a car wreck I wasn't quite up to going out to boot the babies out of the boxes at roosting time.

So eggciting! That is one gorgeous dark brown egg! I have one french maran (featherless feet), but she does not lay an egg close to as dark as that!

French Cuckoo Marans from Ideal.

Ideal doesn't always have the breeds I want, but when I can get them from Ideal I've always been happy with the birds.

I washed them so they can show their true colors.

One from yesterday and one from today. I suspect it's just one pullet laying, but I can't be sure:

I was quite pleasantly surprised after all the warnings to not expect very dark eggs from hatchery Marans.

All egg colors are fun, I got my blue copper maran hen from foxfire out of ID as an egg. I have her eggs in incubator right now, the dark ones. These are on day 14...

Without actually having a physical color chart I'd say that it's about a 5 -- far from perfect but well within standards.
