I have 2 8(ish) week old crevecouer chicks. One has a comb and one doesn’t (dead giveaway!? 🧐) also their tails look different. Thing is I don’t know if this is genetic difference or gender differences. I’m not seeing any distinct pointy saddle feathers, but maybe it’s too early. Not sure when waddle development would happen but none yet on either. I have noticed that some hens have visible obvious combs while others don’t- I just have no clue when they would start to be noticeable. Any thoughts? Guesses? It’s driving me crazy thinking about it all the time lol 😂 TIA!!

Oh wow. I see it now! I looked up the breed. It's really hard to see its comb in the pictures, you can only really see one side at a time, hidden by all those head feathers haha. What a cool breed of chicken! Are you happy that you have a cockerel and a hen?

I haven't ever raised this breed but with most crested breeds, males have much wilder looking crests, or streamers that are longer than most of the crest feathers, where the females have nice little "globes." To me, this looks like a pair, but with zero experience with crevecoeurs it's purely a guess.

A pair as in male and female?

I got them under the assumption I was getting 2 pullets. But they are really really amazing and are quite the couple either way. Since I can’t have Roos in “town” (🙄) I have a great home lined up for the both of them should he be a him. My happiness lies in that they will stay together either way and be loved. ❤️😌

Maybe this old post will help a bit, if you have not already read it... It made me question my decision because the feathers they show on this chook.. hmmm.
I have... one of the reasons I’m stuck 🤪
Even there is a crevecouer breeding Facebook group that I have stalked (🤓). It seems some hens have combs that come in as early as 2 months, while some cockerels lack them (poor genetics- for the breed) saddle feathers are supposed to be a telltale sign- but either mine haven’t come in, don’t have them (properly), or I can’t recognize them (highly likely). My two are different both head and tail which makes me think I have one of each, but individually they could both still go either way. 🤯
