One of these sex-links is not like the other

Not the most useful photos, but here's my 16 WK old BSL pullet. She has a little copper on her chest but not that much. Shes on the right in that group photo.

I just learned that you can make sex links as long as you have a BR hen and roo isnt barred. Dang it, the one BR hen I have didn't lay any eggs before I set them for the halloween hatch-along. Coulda gotten some sex links!!!
It doesn't even have to be a barred rock, any barred or cuckoo hen will work.

Barring is a sex linked trait, it is only found on the male sex chromosome. Unlike mammals (XX for females and XY for males), female birds are the ones with two different sex chromosomes(ZY) and males only have one sex chromosome(ZZ). Since female chicks inherit their Z chromosome from the rooster a non-barred rooster can never sire barred female chicks. And since the male chicks inherit a barred Z chromosome from the hen they will also inherit the barred feather pattern.

Here’s a “Black Star” (TSC’s black sex link which I think are RIRxBR) that I really like! I love when they have a lot of the red leakage
