Went to feed up this after noon and as I was walking to the pen I could tell right away that there was something wrong with one of my midnight hens, she was sitting in the corner panting, wings dropped.
I went straight in a grabbed a needle and the Tylan.
Caught her up and gave her a dose, then went to examining her for injury, nothing, felt thick as a brick. So I checked underneath for egg problems, BINGO!
She has a crushed egg stuck inside her??
I went threw all I could think of, even went in the vent to try to free it, but couldnt get to it, it's way up there.
Are there any trick to help her out and pass this thing. I can also feel the next egg in there, still soft shelled, but you can tell it's next in line.
Really dont want to loose her, she's a great layer, not sure how it got crushed but it's a mess feels like.
As I was helping her, you could feel her contracting trying to push it out??
Any thoughts or tips would be great
Thanks

Put some cod liver oil ,or baby oil in her vent, keep nher warm. You made need to remove a piece at a time. The oil help past the whole egg better, but may help wash out broken pieces also.

Thanks DEERMAN,
Just got off the phone with Doug and he said pretty much the same thing for her, so I'll get to work on that, sure dont want to loose her, she's a good one.
She was looking a good bit fiestier at dark, eating and drinking and getting around much better, so maybe she's trying, but I'm gone dose her up good in the morning too

I know with one of my chickens, I took mineral oil and a goat feeding tube and put mineral down as close to the egg as possible. I also put her on an antibiotic. With my first one, the vet removed it because it was stuck really good and they had to break it... he only charged me $30, so it wasn't too bad.

Yep,
I've got a long slender syringe with her name on it for in the morning, got to get it out tomorrow one way or another, cause like I said, I can already feel another one in there for the next days laying, still soft, but wont be for long, so this ones got to go tomorrow.
Already Tylan ed her tonight to be safe. My local vet is a buddy of mine, but he hates birds with a passion, I've never been able to get him to touch one, but he may be in for a house call tomorrow whether he likes it or not

LOL, my livestock vet doesn't know a lot about birds but so far I've talked him into wrestling down an emu with a limp, operating on a swans leg, and putting down a chicken... hehe and he didn't charge me for any of it...... poor man, never knows what he's in for over here....

Just got in from seeing about her. Can still feel just a small bit in there, she seems to have passed most of it. Walking around and acting normal today, no signs of the shell any where, I'm sure some one ate it probably. The one that was soft shelled in her yesterday is now hard shelled, and looks to be ready to lay this evening, she usually lays about 8 pm just before going on the roost, so I'll feel much better about it when I see that one on the ground and know she's not bound up over it.
Will keep yall posted, but looking like the ol lube job this morning definately has helped
Thanks
