One baby quail has hatched out earlier than it should and is on its own, now i cant be there all the time with it (work etc) and usually they dont mind. is there anything i can do to stop it wasting energy!?

Hang a feather duster in the brooder for it to crawl under. I did that with one of my lone chicks and it worked (mostly!)

thanks, ill give that a try, it has hatched 4 days early! never had an early hatch before! :/

update
the egg was a rogue!

imcubator had 2x12 eggs from different ebay sources

i thought my chicks were hatching early so i upped the humidity and turned off the rocker at day 16 (cali quail usually hatch day 22)
turns out that the early hatcher wasnt a cali quail but a japanese!
i only figired this out on day 18, too late to put the rocker on etc.
i thought i had lost all 24 eggs cause of this (7 days off rocker and 7 days with increased humidity)
it came to day 23 when my gf rang to say i was a dad to 7 chicks!
9 eventually emerged +1 rogue out of 12 fertile

what is amazing is that chick hatched in a rocking incubator at 40%humidity :O
i think there were 2 rogues as i found another early piped egg but it had pips all over the shell so the rocker had killef it. the only reason the first got out is because ot eas in the middle at the incubator where the rocking is less servere.

wonder what the rogue will look like!
