I was unsuccessful at hatching eggs twice at home so someone gave us 2 Silkies today. One is 1 week old and the other is 2 weeks old. We have set up a brooder for them. The older one seems to be adjusting ok, but the little one has not stopped chirping or laid down since he has been here. It's been 4 hours. Do you think he'll quiet down? Does he miss his mother? He does try to go under the older ones wing sometimes.

Try giving it a warm towel to snuggle up with, it should calm down soon. If it was with many other chicks then it would be scary for it to suddenly be with only one. If the towel fails, you can always snuggle it up to your heart to see if that calms it, my silks fall right asleep when I do that so I just carry them around in my shirt. As weird as that is

I will try the warm towel. I have done lots of snuggling and he does quiet down a lot then. Thanks!

I found out the calm chicken was born in an incubator and the noisy little one just left his mama and siblings. He is adjusting and takes naps now.
