One year old Hen is egg bound.............I think.

My run is completely predator proof. I've about 50 Racoons that forage around here at night and they gave up trying to get inside the run or coop a lot of years ago. So did the Bobcats. :he

About all I can do is partition off the end of the run and let her have that. I made a perch for her. We are going to separate her tomorrow. We're under a Tornado warning tonight and I don't want her out for her first night bucking those kind of winds. As long as we don't get hit, she'll be safe in the coop.

Well, I put her in "jail" for 5 days. At this point I'd say it was a complete success and she is no longer broody. Will have to wait and see what happens. Interesting point................her jail sentence upset the flock. Egg production went down to one and two eggs per day and someone in the group even broke and ate an egg. That only happened twice and it's been 3 days since it happened so I'm hoping our little "flock" is back to normal now. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Well-l-l-l...........my broody hen is broody again. Let's see, she made it a whole 2 months and what, 3 weeks????? She's in "jail" once again. Our 6 hens are laying 4 to 6 nice eggs a day. But recently have backed down to sometimes 3 or 2 ! I think it's her fault. She's got them all messed up. As much as I hate to do it, I'll keep her quarantined for a week this time. She can see all that's going on with the rest of the flock. And they even come and sit with her..........I guess to reassure her all is well. She has no darkness in which to get comfortable and brood and she is perfectly safe where she is. She's one of my favorites and comes to the gate each morning to get her morning petting. But believe me, she's holding it against me and is not at all happy.........😤........not letting me even hint at petting her. Oh well, no chicken is going to hurt my feelings. :hitThe last time I had hens, I had two dozen. Didn't give me any problems at all. So this time, even though I've only a half dozen, they've provided me with a lot of "grumbles".
