My beautiful EE has stopped laying. She is one year old. I checked to see if she was egg bound by gently feeling the rump area, no egg. I kept an eye on her for a few days, she didn't walk away from the flock to lay an egg and she stopped singing the egg song with the others. Her tail it lowered, but like I said, not egg bound, also she still poohs. She is acting mostly normal, her submissive, calm self. She always acts lethargic and but in a calm way, when she is frightened, she can be fast. Only sign of molting is her beautiful chin fluff falling off about a month and a half ago, it is now growing back. Also I give them a good amount of calcium, it is just my EE. What do I do? I had a egg bound chicken before and this is not what she was like. Can you please help?

Edit- I have also been finding the eggs covered in yolk and they don't eat the other eggs. If my chickens eat one egg then they are bond to eat all, I know my own chickens. I had egg eaters before, and they now only eat the warped or deformed eggs.

Could be the EE is laying 'weak' eggs taht are being broken and eaten.
Are there any shell fragments left with the yolk covered eggs?
Frequent gathering may help solve the 'mystery' by catching them 'in the act'.

There have been no shell fragments and I will keep an eye of her to see if it is really her. Thanks.

It can be hard to catch them.....had wet nests for weeks before I finally found a shell before they ate it.
You could crate her, that might work.
Have you checked her pelvic points?

I read the article (nice article by the way 👍) and checked her pelvic points and checked her wattle and comb. I couldn't put more that one finger by length and barely two by widths and her comb and wattle was sort of pale and shriveled, the other chickens have normal colored.

Then she is probably not laying....must be another bird that is laying the 'broken egg'.
Just keep checking the nests, hopefully you are on 'stay at home lock down' and have plenty of time to check frequently.

Yes, I'm in lockdown and ok, I will continue to keep an eye on her.

I have 4 RI reds that are all a year old and not one has laid an egg in over a month.
The Golden comets are still laying one every 18 hrs. or so, so I separated them and still nothing from the Reds. No fragments, no nothing. I did find goo from a broken egg before I separated them so I moved the Goldens to a separate section of the yard and isolated the two together. But I don't have anything to separate the reds with.
I have 4 younger birds (Orpingtons) but they don't eat eggs; Never have.
Ideas?
