Hello, new to chicken keeping, I adopted an older retired bird (Astrolorp) and she hangs out with me in the garden. Super friendly, we chat, she lays an egg every other day or so. I did not get her for the eggs, just for companionship. The eggs are a nice treat.
Got a younger bird to keep her company as suggested by others. The younger chicken, (a Barnevelder) is about one year old and came from a small enclosed yard, about 20 birds in a 30’ x 10’ space. I have a half acre for free range. The younger bird laid an egg the first day she got here, she laid an egg the second day and three months later, she has never laid another egg. I feed them a wide range of fruit and veggies and meal worms. I keep pellets, laying crumble and fresh water out at all times. I give them scratch; I cook rice for them and pretty much bend over backwards to treat them, Grandma style. The young chicken “bows” to me, whenever I go into the yard. She is not molting. She just hangs around. Doesn’t seem at all uncomfortable. I don’t mind that she is not laying eggs, just wondered if it is “normal”.

Do they free range? Could she possibly have a hidden stash somewhere? You'd be surprised some of the places hens will find to hide their eggs. :)
Hi and thanks for the input. I have looked high and low for any place she could be hiding an egg. The other thing I noticed, since I am around all day, she is almost always in the yard where I can see her. She does not "disappear" like the older chicken does. I always know when Nancy is laying an egg because she goes back into the coop for at least an hour.

Hello and thanks for considering my question. Now that you mention it, there are up to 6 feathers in the coop every morning, definitely belonging to the younger chicken who is not laying. She seems normal other than that interesting "bowing" motion she does when she is near me. She does not "bow" when near the other chicken, Nancy. Her poop has always been small, sort of the size of a grape, whereas Nancy has rather large robust poops. Her comb is the same. If anything, she seems very healthy. She was a bit ragged when we first brought her home. I don't mind that she is not laying, just making sure I am on the right track.

Give her time, make sure she has a good layer feed with protein, oyster shells. She will begin laying when its time. I have a RIR who hasn't laid for 2 months now. A friend brought his dog over and she hasn't laid since. My girls were in their run and not even in the yard. but apparently just seeing the dog spooked her. I am hoping she starts back up soon. :)

I'm betting stress induced mini molt. Moving to a new place is stressful and she's about the right age for at least a mini molt.
Your young girl bows to you because you're the top bananna, food bringer...the strange looking rooster.
Cut back on the rice, fruits and veggies but bump up the mealworms and meat for a month or so.:)
