Not to hijack your post, but I was wondering what you do to breed out the "tweener" form? I'm wanting single laced. Do I just breed back to the adult that has better lacing or get other genetics? Thank you!!

Well once I have established proper type on a project, then it's time to buckle down and fine tune the pattern/color.

Try to only use the cleanest laced birds in your breeding pens But if a bird js just so superior in type/size, it will probably be worth delaying the clean lacing a little longer. It's a process

The is a old breeder saying that goes. "You will get what you will tolerate" Which I take to mean, if you use birds in your breeding pen that have faults, don't be surprised if the resulting chicks also carry those faults.

A breeder is usually way ahead raising less chicks using fewer numbers of the best birds they may have in their breeding pens, instead of including any marginal birds. This is what often differentiates a breeder from those producing eggs/chicks/birds for sale, where numbers tend to trump quality.

Thanks Big Medicine. The type seems to be pretty close to SOP. I guess I will just work on the pattern/color now, unless I sell out completely. lol

Looking for rare color Brahma chickens to start a breeding program. I'm in NW PA. 45 acre farm. We pretty much free range our chicken right now but I want to get into some serious breeding. I have investigated most of the breeds and Brahma chickens are the way I want to go.

Also looking for a mentor/co-breeder willing to share knowledge and swap chickens.

Thank you in advance.
