I'll take the Barred Rocks and put up 8 RIR eggs that are nonhatchery and nonproduction type. These are from a frieds stock I am buying. I already paid for them just not moved to my place yet for quarrentine.

I am incubating these but I am getting about 14 eggs a day. Fertility has been about 95% but you know the deal with shipped eggs.

There are RIRs that are not true pure RIR. They have some other breed mixed in with them that helps make them produce more eggs than the average RIR. It has almost common place to have these type RIRs accepted as true RIRs. My RIRs are the older type that have the squareish body and the darker red feathers and the more green tail than the production reds do also. I just got some eggs from a fellow BYC person that has really nice show quality RIRs. Theses are not from those. A lot of hatchery RIRs are the production strain.

This is a nonproduction RIR.

they will be mahogany in color not the brassy red most hatcheries claim to be RIR's. They are just production reds but are great egg layers!!! Just these will be true to the standard for the breed.

Most of the Exhibition Birds are breed for production as well as type because if your birds dont lay then you have a hard time of producing more birds for you to show. Do you have any pics of your birds?

i think they are breed to the standard not how many eggs they lay. If i am understanding you correct, LOL.

some breeders breed for both. some also breed for other qualities like broodiness and meat potentials. well at the same time looking at how close to standard they are.
